My oldest son has started creating his own music and he published the first song he made a couple of months ago on Youtube. I have to admit I was never a fan of electronic type music, but after listening to him work on these and also enjoying the types of music he listens too I have become a fan. He has now made several songs but this one started it all.

This past weekend we had a special day as our daughter Teresa received her sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. It was a perfect day! She chose St. Faustina as her confirmation saint.

Sunday, March 6th - Holy League Event
A special presentation given by Doug Barry on preparing for and engaging in the spiritual fight. The talk is centered on the Sacraments and using the tools God has given us to fight the spiritual battle. Men, women, and children (over the age of seven) are encouraged to attend. Timeline for March 6th is as follows:
5:00-6:00pm – Potluck dinner and talk for men
6:00-7:30 – Battle Ready Rally (with Doug Barry) open to men, women, and children (over the age of seven)
7:30-8:30 – Men’s Holy League Hour with confession (for the men) and adoration

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Supreme Court decision, June 26, interpreting the U.S. Constitution to require all states to license and recognize same-sex "marriage" "is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us," said Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

The full statement follows:

Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable. Just as Roe v. Wade did not settle the question of abortion over forty years ago, Obergefell v. Hodges does not settle the question of marriage today. Neither decision is rooted in the truth, and as a result, both will eventually fail. Today the Court is wrong again. It is profoundly immoral and unjust for the government to declare that two people of the same sex can constitute a marriage.

The unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is inscribed in our bodies as male and female. The protection of this meaning is a critical dimension of the “integral ecology” that Pope Francis has called us to promote. Mandating marriage redefinition across the country is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us, especially children. The law has a duty to support every child’s basic right to be raised, where possible, by his or her married mother and father in a stable home.

Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that from the beginning marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. As Catholic bishops, we follow our Lord and will continue to teach and to act according to this truth.

I encourage Catholics to move forward with faith, hope, and love: faith in the unchanging truth about marriage, rooted in the immutable nature of the human person and confirmed by divine revelation; hope that these truths will once again prevail in our society, not only by their logic, but by their great beauty and manifest service to the common good; and love for all our neighbors, even those who hate us or would punish us for our faith and moral convictions.

Lastly, I call upon all people of good will to join us in proclaiming the goodness, truth, and beauty of marriage as rightly understood for millennia, and I ask all in positions of power and authority to respect the God-given freedom to seek, live by, and bear witness to the truth.

Today’s release of Pope Francis’ Encyclical “Laudato Si” (“On Care for Our Common Home”) has been awaited with great anticipation and interest, not only among Catholics, but within the general public as well. The Holy Father has encouraged all of us to reflect upon God’s gifts of creation and the environment and how we care for that which has been entrusted to us. Exercising proper stewardship of all of our resources is integral to the dignity of human life and an application of our social teachings.

One has only to look around the Diocese of Gaylord to see the spectacular beauty created by God. For example, we are surrounded by the largest freshwater system on Earth and an abundance of land for agriculture. All this has happened because many men rejected the basic foundational truth of manhood: that your life is to be spent at the service of others, even to the point of dying for those you love to protect them. Until sufficient numbers of men understand that and make it their own again, society will be lost and spiral even more out of control.

I thank God every day for my daughters and how much fun we have and how much they make laugh. Dads have an important role to play in raising girls and we need to remember just how much they look to us for attention, understanding, and love. Dr. Meeker explains some "dos and don'ts" and a reminder that fathers hold a special spot in their daughters hearts.

Women, like men, want to feel that someone in their lives adores them. Adoration is the sense that you can do no wrong. Why should you communicate this to your daughter when she, of course, makes mistakes? Because she needs it from you. Because she needs it from you, your daughter has a space in her heart that is designed for you alone. No one else can occupy that spot.

My wife sent me this video by Colleen Hammond about dressing modestly and a brief history of women's clothing over time. It is very good and I highly recommend both men and women watch it.

I sometimes forget how important it is to make time for Eucharistic Adoration. This great quote from St Augustine was my reminder last night.

Unfortunately not the first time I've heard of Catholics called out for wanting to receive Holy Communion on their knees and on their tongue. Hopefully the Archbishop does what is needed in this case.
